I bought a cheap two stroke engine online and installed it on a mountain bike frame a friend gave me. I rode this thing around for a month or so before selling it — it was really loud, uncomfortable to ride because the engine shook the entire frame, and every time I rode it I had to check the whole bike over for loosened parts.
It was pretty fun for a while — it got up to about 25 mph at full throttle, and I learned about two stroke engines and how to register a moped with no VIN.
I also learned that these bicycles aren’t allowed on the multi-use rail trails around here. Oddly enough, e-bikes are, and most e-bikes can go much faster — I suspect it’s strictly a noise concern.
