Kitchen Backsplash Tile

Our house had an addition with a kitchen that was completely built by the original homeowner. It stood for over 50 years, however, the foundation wasn’t placed on footings and the entire addition was slowly sinking. Before we purchased our house, we’d planned on rebuilding the addition, and from 2021-2022 we worked with an architect and a general contractor to accomplish this.

Most of the excellent work was done by our general contractor and an army of subcontractors. However, there were some parts that we wanted to tackle ourselves.

Angie worked with a custom tile designer to have this design, the colors, and the layout prepared for our kitchen. I installed all of these handmade custom tiles, picking up a new skill in the process.

Most of the tiles were diamond-shaped and had to be installed according to a very specific plan. These pieces were sent in sheets that were about a foot square and needed to be reassembled on the wall. Each piece had to have its edges trimmed and holes cut for any outlets, and the section that wasn’t patterned was finished with subway tile.
